Equipment Configurations

Equipment can be carried individualy or amongst the team

Technical diving demands that you, the diver, have a greater understanding of your equipment and each pieces' fit-for-purpose when considering its contribution to life support.

All of our courses will give you the knowledge to choose the right equipment for each dive.

Equipment considerations include:

  • Doubles, sidemount or CCR configuration
  • Aluminum, steel and even carbon fiber tanks
  • Tank volumes, e.g. 3,5, 40, 72, 80, 95, 100.....120cu ft etc
  • Back plates, harnesses and wings
  • Regulator types
  • Lift bag, reels and cutting devices
  • Backup masks and communication tools
  • Primary and back-up lights
  • Dive computers, timers and depth gauges

Redundancy is a major factor when planning. What happens if:

  • a regulator fails
  • my light battery goes flat
  • I drop my knife?

Finally how you wear your equipment is also critical

  • am I streamlined
  • what does my buddy have
  • does the team carry enough equipment?

The Equipment Specialist specialty course is also an important component of your training to enable you to fix problems rather than miss the dive as well as understanding your configuration choices in more depth.
