Dive Propulsion Vehicles (DPV) / Scooter

DPVs come in a large range of styles and open up a whole new range and performance ability in the water. Whether it be extended penetrations into caves, the ability to cover greater differences on the reefs and even, under carefully structured conditions, racing fellow divers, there is a DPV to fit all needs. NOTE: DPV certification does not automatically certify you to enter overhead environments and diver deeper than previously qualified too.

What You'll Learn

DPVs can be huge fun whether you're snorkelling at the surface, covering large distances to meet dive objectives or using it as a tool to help tie-in to new wreck sites. Like any new skill or tool you need to be trained to use them safetly and to the maximum of their efficiency.

Specific techniques to be taught include:

  • Correct operation of the unit.
  • Subtle bouyancy changes.
  • Streamlining equipment to protect it and the DPV.
  • Emergency procedures incase the unit 'runs-away' or fails (e.g. flat battery)
  • Correct (& safe) cleaning, storage and maintenance of the units.

After completeing the accademics session - usually as self study with instructor backup/review you will perform drills and dives over a minimum of 2 dives. Depending on conditions we may also do a confined water/pool session.
