USCG Bibb

The 327-foot /Treasury/Secretary class of cutters were named to honor former Secretaries of Treasury. Prominent Kentuky lawyer George Motier Bibb served in the US Senate twice, 1811-1814 and 1829-1835.

 

Built at a cost of $2.5m her keel was laid in Aug 1935. She was launched on 14 Jan 1937 and finally decommissioned on 30th September 1985. With a displacement of 2350 tons and length of 327' her compliment of 146 crew (1966) acted as a workhouse to the US services.

 

Sunk as part of the Florida artificial reef project on 28 Nov 1987 she now lies on her starboard side and represents one of the most challenging and rewarding dives in the area.
